Current mayor, self-nominee Volodymyr Mykolayenko has won the second round of the mayoral election in Kherson, according to the final results announced by the city election commission on Monday.
According to the commission, 37,532 voters (68.3%) supported Mykolayenko, while Batkivschyna All-Ukrainian Union candidate Vladyslav Manhera was backed by 15,697 voters (28.6%). A total of 1,710 voters (3.1%) spoiled their ballots.
All in all, 54,939 Kherson residents out of the total of 269,959 registered voters went to the polls. Voter turnout was 20.35%.
According to the police, the elections in Kherson were held peacefully without gross violations of public order. As of 20.00, when the polls were closed, the police received only six reports of violations of the electoral process.
As reported, at the 2014 mayoral election, Mykolayenko, who was then nominated by the Batkivschyna all-Ukrainian Union, received 49,072 votes.
