The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) has said that the 2016 state budget should include at least UAH 100 billion in security and defense spending, totaling 5% of GDP.
"The National Security and Defense Council has considered security and defense spending for 2016. As a result of discussion, the Cabinet of Ministers was recommended to provide spending on the security and defense sector at the level of 5% of GDP according to the National Security Strategy of Ukraine and its Military Doctrine. A total of 3% of spending should be meant for the defense sector," the NSDC press service reported on Wednesday.
Additional financing from special funds and exploitation of resources under state guarantees will also be provided.
The NSDC also discussed strategic military programs on the development and production of modern armaments and military equipment for inclusion in the 2016 state defense order.
