A321 that crashed in Egypt did not fly over antiterrorist operation area – Egyptian diplomat

The area in the Sinai Peninsula where Egyptian authorities are conducting an antiterrorist operation is outside of the route the Russian Airbus A321 jetliner followed when it crashed on October 31, and flying over the Sinai Peninsula is absolutely safe, Egyptian Ambassador to Russia Mohamed Elbadri said.

"One thing I'm positive of is that all military operations in Sinai against the terrorists are in a very small corner, in the northeast corner of the Sinai Peninsula. It is outside of the trajectory of the plane, besides the plane was 11 kilometers up. These are the facts," Elbadri said in an interview with Interfax.

Asked how safe it is to fly over the Sinai Peninsula, the ambassador replied, "It is perfectly safe."

"All the international air companies are there with the exception of two or three. The rest are there, and they fly normally. Even charter flights fly normally. It is very safe there and there is no problem whatsoever," he added.
