Russia uses ceasefire to create smoke screen to ease sanctions - Poroshenko
The sanctions policy of Ukraine should depend on Russia's full compliance with the Minsk agreements, however so far Moscow is trying to get the sanctions eased without the implementation of all the provisions, Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko has said.
"The aim which Russia is currently pursuing is to put up a smoke screen and based only on the ceasefire get the sanctions eased or lifted," he said during a joint press conference with Prime Minister of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel in Kyiv on Thursday.
Poroshenko expressed his position that the sanctions against Russia should be kept in place until the end of the occupation of the sovereign territory of Ukraine, the removal of all Russian troops from Ukraine's territory, the restoration of control over the state border, and the implementation of economic, humanitarian and other components of the Minsk process.
"The policy of sanctions should be a tool that motivates the aggressor and occupier to negotiate and which should enforce the implementation of the commitments that were made in Minsk," he said
