Some 16,000 tonnes of Donbas aid stuck, more checkpoints should be opened - Saidik

About 800 trucks with humanitarian aid bound for Donbas have been unable to get into the region promptly.

Speaking to journalists in Minsk on Tuesday, Martin Sajdik, the special representative of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, said that 16,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid - that is about 800 trucks - have been readied but cannot be delivered.

We have also asked Ukraine to open as many checkpoints as possible on the dividing line in the Luhansk region, he said.

The trucks which have been unable to get to Donbas are carrying humanitarian supplies, Sajdik said.

It is very important because they include not just food but also building materials and other supplies needed to rebuild the region's infrastructure, he said.

The donor countries are concerned by the lack of the possibility to deliver humanitarian aid to the region, the OSCE special representative said.

The donor countries, too, have to report on why this aid is not being delivered, he said.
