Ukraine seeks UN aid to resolve situation in Donbas – Poroshenko
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has urged the UN to help in settling the conflict in Donbas and added that a successful resolution of the situation would demonstrate the organizations' efficiency to the global community.
"Our Armed Forces and volunteers are fighting against Russian aggression in Donbas, and unfortunately today Ukraine needs UN aid and I think that we would be able to find a common approach, and the success of our coordination would be the best signal to the whole world on the organization's efficiency regarding concerns connected with the security situation in the country," Poroshenko said during a speech on peacekeeping at the UN General Assembly in New York.
Later on, the president's Press Secretary Sviatoslav Tseholko tweeted that "the president urged the United Nations to send a peacekeeping mission to Ukraine to de-escalate the situation in Donbas."
