President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has met with his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York, the president's Press Secretary Sviatoslav Tseholko said.
"During the talk, President Obama underlined that the United States will continue to support Ukraine, which is introducing reforms and is continuing to search for a diplomatic settlement of the conflict [in Donbas]," Tseholko said on his Facebook page on Tuesday morning.
He also said that Obama confirmed his support for Ukraine and its president's efforts on defending the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country.
Earlier, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Yuriy Serheyev reported about the meeting between the two leaders.
"There was an extremely serious conversation between the Ukrainian and U.S. presidents," he tweeted.
