UN secretary general hopes for productive "Normandy-format" meeting on Oct 2

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said he hopes the Normandy Quartet will hold productive talks in Paris on October 2 and called for access to humanitarian aid by all the needy in Ukraine.

At his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ban said that the Minsk agreements on ceasefire are mostly complied with, but the situation is not ideal and all parties should demonstrate the political will.

Ban said he hopes that the Normandy Quartet's meeting on October 2 will be very productive, adding that Putin's role in it is particularly important for the ceasefire and achieving a U-turn.

Ban also expressed his concern about the humanitarian situation.

Now that the winter season is getting closer, and Ukrainian winter can be harsh, so it is necessary to make that all the need have access to humanitarian aid, he said.
