Ukraine's situation important for global security - Merkel
Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko and German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel have discussed in New York the preparations for a 'Normandy format' meeting scheduled for October 2 in Paris, the Ukrainian president's press service reported.
"The federal chancellor noted that the situation in Ukraine had an important significance for the global security. In this context, according to her, one should clearly distinguish between the security situation in Ukraine and Syria," the report reads.
Poroshenko and Merkel once again agreed that pseudo-elections in the occupied territories would disrupt the Minsk process.
The parties also discussed the state of preparation for the launch of the deep and comprehensive free trade area between Ukraine and the European Union on January 1, 2016 and the prospects of the EU's introduction of visa-free regime for Ukraine.
