Situation on checkpoint with Crimea quiet; cars, passenger transport move unhindered - Ukrainian Interior Ministry
The situation at the Chongar, Kalanchak and Chaplinka checkpoints had remained stable and controllable by 1 p.m. on Sunday, Kherson regional police said on Sunday.
"Roads were not blocked, light and passenger transport is moving unhindered. Police are talking to the citizens and motorists, who gathered at the checkpoints, to explain the work of preventing public order violations," a Kherson regional police spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, according to a post on the Crimea. Realities account on Twitter, there is already a kilometer-long queue of trucks at the Kalanchak checkpoint.
Earlier reports, citing Ukrainian interior minister's advisor Zorian Shkyriak, said that "Crimean Tatars and public activists have begun an indefinite civil protest" on the border between Ukraine's Kherson region and the Republic of Crimea to block trade routes to the peninsula.
