Poroshenko urges parliament to scrap bail in corruption cases
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko met with the leaders of the coalition factions and urged them to find a compromise regarding the bill he suggested on raising or scrapping bail in criminal cases related to the corruption, the press service of the president has reported.
"The Head of State said that lately, law enforcement agencies cooperated with the Security Service of Ukraine and the prosecutor's office to catch a number of [corrupt] officials red handed. The president said this was a good sign, but warned the people of disappointment due to the possibility of judges' releasing the detained on bail," the report said.
"I'm sure that we need the unity of the coalition here more than ever," Poroshenko said.
