Opposition accuses Ukrainian authorities of trying to disrupt elections in Donbas
The authorities are trying to block the elections in Donbas using administrative pressure, Yuriy Boiko, chairman of the faction Opposition Bloc, said after a conciliatory council meeting in the Verkhovna Rada on Monday.
He said Opposition Bloc has registered a bill that enables displaced people to participate in local elections.
"We are ready to support any bill, ours or not, it doesn't mater, which will enable people to vote and elect local authorities. However we now see that attempts are being made, even in peaceful cities controlled by the Ukrainian administration, to block the elections," the Opposition Bloc press service quoted Boiko as saying.
The politician believes the authorities are trying to block elections in some populated areas of Donbas through repression and administrative pressure. "We have partially resolved this problem, but we continue fighting for those cities and settlements where the authorities are trying to deprive people of their right to vote," Boiko said.
