Elections should take place in Mariupol - Poroshenko
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko supports the organization of local elections in Mariupol, Donetsk region, on October 25.
"I have made a decision that this city should become a symbol of Ukrainian Donbas and it will be unfair, to these people in the first place, not to trust, not to give residents of Mariupol a chance to vote on the future administration […] I emphasize and I am confident that the elections should take place. What people will vote for will happen. Voters' will is a law to me - it's my position," Poroshenko said at the Regional Development Council meeting in Kyiv on Wednesday.
Proposals were made earlier in Ukraine at all levels not to hold local elections in Mariupol, which is close to the military action zone in Donbas.
