MEPs to hold debate on violation of rights of Sentsov, Kolchenko in Russia - Poroshenko
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has said that in response to his appeal members of the European Parliament will hold a debate about the gross violation of human rights of Oleh Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko in Russia.
"In response to my appeal MEPs will hold a special debate about the gross violation of human rights of Sentsov and Kolchenko in Russia," the Ukrainian president wrote on his Twitter account.
The North Caucasus Military District Court found Ukrainian filmmaker Sentsov guilty of plotting terrorist attacks in Crimea in 2014 and sentenced him to 20 years in a high-security penitentiary on Tuesday.
Sentsov hasn't admitted his guilt.
The court also sentenced another defendant in the case Ukrainian citizen Oleksandr Kolchenko to 10 years in a high-security penitentiary in the same proceeding.
