Cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) have been registered in six households of Dubrovytsia district of Rivne region, the State Veterinary and Biosecurity Service of Ukraine has reported.
The service said in a press release that on September 3, 2015, ASF was found in six pigs, three of which died.
The lab tests showed ASF virus.
In July 2015, ASF was registered in Dubrovytsia district of Rivne region among bushpigs.
Around 200 pigs are bred in the settlement of Budymlia.
The service said that since early 2015, quarantine was denounced in 10 out of 21 areas where ASF was found, and quarantine is still in effect in 11 areas.
The ASF virus is the causative agent of ASF. The virus causes a hemorrhagic fever with high mortality rates in pigs, but persistently infects its natural hosts, warthogs, bushpigs and soft ticks of the Ornithodoros genus, without any visible symptoms. There is currently no vaccine against ASF.
