Court refuses to oblige Poroshenko to impose martial law in Ukraine - media
The Higher Administrative Court of Ukraine has refused to oblige Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to impose martial law in the country, ZN.UA website reported with reference to the plaintiff - lawyer Oleh Shvets.
"The lawyer tried to prove in court the unlawfulness of the inactivity of the president and parliament in the matter of defense of the country. Shvets also demanded to recognize the inactivity of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which hasn't begun considering the start of the constitutional procedure to impeach the president, as illegal. According to the lawyer, the president failed to properly organize the Ukraine's defense," the publication said.
In this regard, Shvets demanded the court oblige the parliament to consider without delay the launch of the impeachment procedure. The court's ruling dated August 6 says that the court "has properly examined all the circumstances," and dismissed the lawyer's claim. This ruling can be overturned by the Supreme Court of Ukraine.
