Two Ukrainian citizens try to smuggle radioactive materials into Romania – PGO
Two Ukrainian citizens conspired with unidentified persons to illegally transport nuclear materials from Ivano-Frankivsk region to Romania, and two criminal proceedings which were opened as a result have been united into one, the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) has reported.
According to the press service, on August 5 the Ivano-Frankivsk office of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) received information that nuclear materials were being smuggled from Ukraine to Romania. As a result, information on the crime was added to the unified registry of pre-trial investigations under Part 1, Article 14, and Part 2, Article 201 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (smuggling).
Another case was opened under Part 3, Article 265 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal work with radioactive materials). Both proceedings were combined into one case.
The pre-trial investigation established that two citizens are involved in the crime. They have since been detained.
