Groysman reminds of no special status for Donbas, no elections in breakaway territories
Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Speaker Volodymyr Groysman has said that there will be no local elections in the Donbas areas that are temporarily beyond Kyiv's control.
"There will be no elections in the territories not controlled by Ukraine," Groysman wrote on his "Facebook" page, commenting on what he called "a burst of scaremongering over local elections on the Ukrainian segment of the Internet."
He also said that "there can be no amnesty in principle for those responsible for crimes against humanity."
The speaker said that "there is no special status for Donbas." "There is a law on the specifics of self-governance in certain parts of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, which spells out clear mechanisms of living in those areas; if militants surrender their weapons, we will gain control of the border and Ukrainian flags will once again be flown over these territories," Groysman said.
The speaker also said that "no one signed or is going to sign [any secret documents with militants], and the West did not exchange us for Syria, Iran or any other country."
All possible documents are available on the Internet, he said. "Let us analyze and discuss documents instead of rumors and inventions," Hroisman said.
