Memorial to honor victims of Holodomor in 1932-1933 in Ukraine installed in Washington
On Tuesday, a memorial to the victims of Holodomor in 1932-1933 in Ukraine was installed near the Capitol in Washington D.C., the press center of the U.S. embassy in Ukraine has reported.
The participants at the event included Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA Valeriy Charly, Artist Larysa Kurylas, U.S. Committee for Ukrainian Holodomor Genocide Awareness 1932-1933 representative Michael Sawkiw, Mary Katherine Lanzillotta of Hartman-Cox Architects, as well as representatives of Forrester Construction Company and the Laran Bronze Foundry.
In 2006, U.S. Congress authorized the Government of Ukraine to establish a memorial on federal land in the District of Columbia to honor the victims of the manmade famine which occurred in Ukraine in 1932–1933.
Since then, the Government of Ukraine in close cooperation with the Ukrainian community has worked on the implementation of the project. The dedication of the Holodomor Memorial is scheduled for November 7, 2015.
