Ukraine protests Russian refusal to allow Savchenko consular assistance
The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has protested the refusal of Donetsk City Court of Rostov region in Russia to allow a Ukrainian consul access to Nadia Savchenko until the ongoing court case is finished and a judgment has been handed down.
"The ministry treats the stance of Russian authorized agencies on concealing the information on Savchenko's whereabouts during her transfer from Moscow to Novocherkassk of Rostov region unacceptable," the ministry said in a statement on Friday.
The ministry also said that Savchenko's immunity as a PACE delegate has been grossly violated and urged Russia to adhere to the Ukraine-Russia Consul Convention of January 15, 1993.
The ministry also demanded that Russia "immediately lets Ukrainian consular authorities see Nadia Savchenko, Oleh Sentsov, other illegally detained political prisoners in Russia."
