Ukraine's PM expects final decision on provision to state budget of $1.5 billion owned by people close to Yanukovych
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arsen Yatseniuk iy has called on the country's law enforcement and judicial systems to complete the procedure for returning the $1.5 billion seized from accounts in Ukrainian banks belonging to people close to Ukraine's ex-president Viktor Yanukovych.
"I expect a final decision to be made by the judicial and law enforcement systems on the confiscation of the $1.5 billion and their transfer to the Ukrainian state budget," Yatseniuk said at the Finance Ministry collegium meeting in Kyiv on Monday.
He said that the funding was seized last year based on decisions made by the State Committee for Financial Monitoring (Hosfinmonitoring), but they have not been confiscated yet.
"I will publicly address the law enforcement system and I am convinced that the prosecutor general backs me personally: the $1.5 billion needs to be confiscated and transferred to the budget," the prime minister said.
