Poroshenko hopes Rada has enough spirit to review bill on foreign currency loan restructuring

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has expressed hope that the Verkhovna Rada will correct its mistake by itself over voting for a draft law on foreign currency loan restructuring.

"I'm disappointed with the Verkhovna Rada. I would not like to switch to direct political responsibility of concrete factions, as everyone was involved in this," he said in an interview with 1+1 TV channel.

He said that lawmakers "wanted to please people by making an absolutely irresponsible decision," but the feedback of people was entirely the opposite.

The president said that he has not yet received the draft law adopted by the Verkhovna Rada for signing. He said that the document shall be considered by the parliamentary procedural committee as many MPs have filed statements indicating that their voting cards were used in their absence.

"I hope that there will be enough strong forces in the Verkhovna Rada to put right the wrongs of the parliament’s past, mildly speaking. If the political spirit of the Verkhovna Rada is not enough, I will protect Ukraine," Poroshenko said.
