OSCE SMM helping to solve many problems in Donbas – ATO press center

The activities of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) in the east of Ukraine help to solve many vital issues in the region, according to the press center of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO).

"Thanks to the intervention of representatives of the OSCE monitoring mission, we managed to break the deadlock in a number of problems on which human lives depend. Despite regular attempts by the militants to block the work of the OSCE monitoring mission, the Armed Forces of Ukraine support its stay and activities in the combat zone," the press center of the press officer of the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) Roman Yurchylo has said.

He said that OSCE representatives in close coordination with the JCCC ensure the monitoring of the ceasefire, are trying to prevent attempts by militants to open fire against ATO forces from the weapons, which according to the Minsk agreements must be removed from the line of contact.

"Representatives of the mission have repeatedly contributed to the organization of the retrieval of dead bodies of Ukrainian servicemen from the territory controlled by the rebels," Yurchylo said.

According to him, the OSCE SMM helped to create conditions to start the restoration of the water supply to the north of Luhansk region.

In addition, the work to restore the water supply to Mariupol, and to restore electricity supplies to residential areas near Maryinka, Krasnohorivka, Maksymilyanivka, Kurakhove in Maryinka district of Donetsk region were held with the assistance of the OSCE and JCCC, Yurchylo said.

The press officer also said that the presence of international representatives in the ATO zone also makes it possible to register the violations of the Minsk agreement by illegal armed groups, and report this information to the international community.
