Yatseniuk: Ukrainian law enforcement agencies' functions should be demarcated
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has spoken out in favor of the demarcation of all procedural actions and functions of Interior Ministry, the Security Service of Ukraine, National Anti-Corruption Bureau, and the State Bureau of Investigations.
"It concerns the fact that all law enforcement agencies of the state should finally work differently," Yatseniuk said on Friday during a meeting of the collegium of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine.
"It means that the law enforcement system mustn't fight itself, but [must] be united in the fight against organized crime, corruption, and in the fight for the rights and freedoms of citizens," he said.
He said that law enforcement reform is being held under the supervision of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko along with the reform of all government agencies responsible for fighting against organized crime.
Yatseniuk went on to say that the police should be ready to be stripped off some of its functions.
