Poroshenko signs laws on strengthening NBU independence included in IMF program
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed amendments to the law on the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), the Budget Code, and other legislative acts on strengthening the institutional framework of the NBU, increasing its efficiency, and building its infrastructure (bills Nos. 2742 and 2743), which is required for the second tranche of a loan to be issued to the country under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program..
According to a post on the parliament's website, the laws signed by the president were submitted to the parliament on July 8.
As reported, the parliament finally adopted both bills submitted by the president on June 18 this year. The amendments to the law on the NBU is one of the structural beacons of the EFF program with the IMF, which was approved in March this year. It was assumed that this condition would be fulfilled by the end of April.
