DPR, LPR attempts to hold separate elections in Donbas on Oct 18 to have destructive consequences - Poroshenko
Attempts to hold elections in territories in eastern Ukraine not controlled by Kyiv will mean Russia breaks agreements reached in Minsk, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said at a news conference on Thursday.
"The attempts to hold on October 18 illegitimate elections not meeting Ukrainian legislation and Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) criteria will mean a harsh attack of Russia on the Minsk agreements reached on February 12, 2015. I am certain that this will be extremely irresponsible and will have devastating consequences for the process of deescalation of tension in certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions," Poroshenko said.
It has been reported that head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Alexander Zakharchenko scheduled local elections in the DPR for October 18, 2015.
