Rada permits arrest of Kyiv Court of Appeals head Chernushenko
The Verkhovna Rada has permitted the arrest of head of the Kyiv Court of Appeals Anton Chernushenko.
A total of 276 parliamentarians voted in favor of Chernushenko's detention, and 273 voted in favor of his arrest.
As reported, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office had notified Chernushenko of being suspected of committing serious criminal offenses, and Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin asked the parliament to allow the arrest and detention of the judge.
Chernushenko is suspected of committing crimes under Article 376-1 part two (illegal interference with the automatic document-processing system of the court) and Article 375 part two (the issuance by a judge of knowingly unlawful court rulings) of the Ukrainian Criminal Code.
Shokin also initiated the removal of Chernushenko by the High Qualification Commission of Judges and asked the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada to agree to his arrest and detention.
