Fifty-five Saxon armored personnel carriers arrive in Ukraine - Poroshenko aide

Ukrainian presidential advisor Yuriy Biriukov has reported the arrival of 55 new Saxon armored personnel carriers transferred to the Ukrainian army.

"So, 55 armored personnel carriers have reached Ukraine and are in the grounds of an army unit already. Their fitting for specific tasks is beginning," he wrote on his Facebook page.

He said that 20 vehicles will be converted for frontline medical and evacuation purposes and 35 for various headquarters vehicles.

Biriukov announced the approximate price of the deal - 51,000 pounds sterling for a vehicle. "I don't know the details of the purchase so far, but the price is somewhere around 51, 000 pounds for a vehicle," he wrote.

According to his knowledge, the vehicles will be repaired at a Defense Ministry automotive facility. Components for them - engines and gearboxes - are expected to arrive in Ukraine shortly too.
