Ukrainian parliament exempts participants in special operation in Donbas from military duty

Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada has made changes to the country's Tax Code exempting participants in the special operation in Donbas from the military duty.

The bill to this effect was backed by 277 parliamentarians on Thursday.

The law adopted by the Rada exempts participants in the special operation from the payment of a 1.5% income tax, Oleh Liashko, the head of the Radical Party faction, told the parliament.

The law decrees that exemption from the military duty is introduced for the period of the special operation in Donbas. The preference is introduced "for the period of direct involvement" in the operation for law enforcement officials, servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the National Guard, the Ukrainian Security Service, the external intelligence service, the State Border Guard Service, Interior Ministry officials, the State Protection Department, and the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection.

The procedures for confirming the status of the said persons for the application of the preference are determined by the Ukrainian government.
