Kremlin underestimates desire of Ukrainians to finish deoligarchisation – U.S. official
U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations Samantha Power has noted the importance of developing civil society in Ukraine.
"The Kremlin has underestimated your willingness to complete the process started on Maidan - to build a system that meets your desires, the desires of Ukrainians but not oligarchs or Moscow," she said at a public meeting in Kyiv.
"This very desire - to finish this process – is the basis of what you have achieved," Power said.
She stressed that Ukraine conducted "perhaps the fairest elections [possible] to the Verkhovna Rada."
"The parliament got a lot of new faces: journalists, human rights activists, those who advocate transparency. And now they advocate reforms in the parliament... They, together with the civil society, insist on more transparency," she said.
