Ukraine places lawmaker Kliuyev on international wanted list
Ukrainian lawmaker Serhiy Kliuyev has been placed on the international most wanted list, Ukraine's prosecutor general, Viktor Shokin, has said.
"We confirm that he has been declared wanted. The Ukrainian Security Service has been put in charge of the search for Kliuyev," Shokin said in Kyiv in answer to a question from Interfax.
Asked if the lawmaker was being looked for in Ukraine, he said, "Of course. But the search effort is international in scope. We are fulfilling a plan of measures," he said.
The prosecutor general said, citing Kliuyev's defense attorney, that Kliuyev was in Ukraine, undergoing medical treatment, but that his exact whereabouts were unknown.
"Kliuyev's defense lawyer claimed that his client is in Ukraine, undergoing medical treatment. But he said he did not know exactly where Kliuyev was," Shokin said.
Shokin proposed stripping Kliuyev of his parliamentary immunity on May 12 on suspicion of abuse of authority, committing fraud, misappropriating property.
