Klitschko not planning to step down as Kyiv mayor, intends to run for re-election
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko is planning to run for reelection if the Verkhovna Rada calls elections in the city, the mayor's press service reported.
"If the Verkhovna Rada announces the holding of local elections in Kyiv, I am ready to take part in them," Klitschko said.
Klitschko also insisted on the importance of decentralization of government bodies and delegating broader powers to them. "We talk a lot about decentralization and delegating broader powers and rights to local government bodies, but it would be good to see this put into practice. For instance, we don't influence the forming of tariffs, we have them given to us from above," Klitschko said.
Another important component of decentralization is the establishment of municipal police accountable to the public, he said.
