Construction of fortifications in Luhansk region to be over by June 10 – official

Thirteen Kharkiv-based construction organizations firms are building fortifications in Luhansk region and are planning to finish the work by June 10, according to deputy governor of Kharkiv region Yevhen Shakhnenko.

"Today, Kharkiv region is the leader in the construction of those defensive installations - work on two platoon posts is finished completely, and another four will be ready next week, according to schedule," a statement released by the Kharkiv regional administration on Friday quoted Shakhnenko as saying.

Shakhnenko said a commission that he headed and that included Defense Ministry officials had visited 31 platoon posts that were under construction. More work had been done on some of them than on others but all of them were to be ready by June 10, Shakhnenko said.

He said all the problems that slowed down the construction of the fortifications in Luhansk region had been solved.

A conference in Kramatorsk, Donetsk region, in March that was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Hennadiy Zubko and brought together several regional governors resulted in a decision to build about 300 fortified posts along the frontline in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Kharkiv was given the task to build 31 of them.

On May 7, the Kharkiv administration said in a statement, citing regional governor Ihor Rainin, that five of the 31 posts were planned to be ready by May 15.
