Norway supports sanctions against Russia to restore Ukraine's sovereignty – Norwegian Foreign Minister
Norway supports Ukraine's territorial integrity and continues to support sanctions against Russia to restore the Ukraine's sovereignty, Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende has said.
As for the preservation of territorial integrity in accordance with international law, we completely support these principles and won't abandon them. Ukraine is our great eastern neighbor. We also cooperated with Russia properly for decades, even in the "Cold War" years. We clearly note that we condemn any violations of international laws towards other countries in terms of their territorial integrity and borders, Brende said at a roundtable talk on humanitarian aid from international organizations and donor states, which was held in Kyiv on Tuesday.
For the first time after the World War II a European country hasn't only violated the borders of another state, but has taken away a part of it. It's completely unacceptable and there's price to pay, Brende said, adding that's why Norway supports EU sanctions against Russia.
