Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has promised that conscripts will not be sent to the area of the military operation in eastern Ukraine.
"I reiterate once again than young conscripts will not be sent to the anti-terrorist operation area under my decree," he said on Saturday at the ceremony where new conscripts of the separate regiment of the president of Ukraine and the 101st separate brigade of the Ukrainian General Staff took their oaths.
He said the new conscripts will receive experience and skills in the places of their permanent deployment, on firing ranges, in training conditions that are close to combat conditions, but not at war.
According to earlier reports, the president has signed a decree on the conscription for military service in the period between April and June. The next conscription will be in the fall.
