The trial of the case involving Ukrainian pilot Nadia Savchenko, who is charged with complicity in the killing of Russian journalists, will be held in Moscow and her defense lawyers will ask for the case to be tried by jury.
"According to legislation, women cannot be sentenced to life in prison in Russia and that means that the court will have the right to decline our request for the case to be tried by jury. However, we will still ask for that, let them decline with a motive, and then we will contest it, even if we have to go to the European Court of Human Rights," Mark Feygin, a lawyer for Savchenko, told Interfax on Friday.
Feygin said the trial will most likely be held in Moscow, in the Basmanny Court or in the Moscow City Court, if the case is tried by jury.
