Savchenko urges PACE to protect democratic values, security in Europe
Ukrainian MP (Batkivschyna) and PACE delegate Nadia Savchenko, who remains in Russian captivity, has urged the assembly's delegates to protect democratic values and security in Europe.
"Today the next PACE session opens, in which I, as a PACE delegate from Ukraine, unfortunately can't participate in for the second time. I'm still in a Russian prison, and Russia by its actions continues to completely neglect democratic values and international law," reads a letter written by Savchenko, which was posted by her lawyer Nikolai Polozov on his Twitter page.
"I call on you to continue to resolutely defend European democratic values, to not succumb to provocation from the aggressor and to not let [allow] a threat to the European lands [from a state] that wants to steal [it] via the Ukrainian territory, bringing a war [on Ukrainian lands]…If we defend Ukraine, we defend Europe!" Savchenko said.
