Rada bans Communist, Nazi propaganda in Ukraine

The Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada has passed legislation submitted by the Cabinet on denouncing Communist and Nazi totalitarian regimes and banning their propaganda and symbols.

One of the main provisions of the bill are the recognition of the 1917-1991 Communist totalitarian regime in Ukraine as criminal and one that pursued a state terror policy and the prohibition of Communist symbols and propaganda.

The Nazi totalitarian regime has also been recognized as criminal and one that pursued state terror policy in Ukraine.

The bill bans all symbols and propaganda of national-socialism and its values and any activities of Nazi or fascist groups in Ukraine.

The bill envisions amendments to 14 existing laws, including the Criminal and Administrative Codes, by introducing sanctions for violating its provisions.
