Ukrainian PM pledges high salaries to investigators probing corruption crimes
Investigators probing high-profile corruption crimes will have their monthly salaries increased to UAH 30,000, said Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk.
"We are setting very high salaries for investigators probing high-profile crimes. Interior Minister Arsen Avakov has proposed setting salaries for them at UAH 30,000. I will make UAH 30,000 available to each investigator who will fight the corrupt mafia in Ukraine," Yatseniuk said in an interview with ICTV television on Sunday evening.
He said he inquired during the Interior Ministry's senior officials meeting about the salaries due to investigators probing corruption cases and learned that they only get UAH 2,300 a month.
"It is hard to run effective probes into corruption crimes receiving such a salary," he said, adding that funds have been made available to increase investigators' salaries.
"The government is fighting resolutely against corruption which in fact did not disappear after the revolution," Yatseniuk said.
