Poroshenko says he's ready to declare referendum on a federal Ukraine
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said he is ready to declare a referendum on whether or not Ukraine should become a federal state.
"Under our legislation, our Constitution, the federal status of Ukraine can only be decided by a nationwide referendum. At the present stage almost 90% of Ukrainians are completely against federalism. Why? Because we are a unitarian state and we do not accept any form of pressure on Ukraine," Poroshenko said in an interview with Euronews.
"And I, as the president of Ukraine, am all times ready to declare the referendum – as this is a democratic tradition – and will follow the results of this referendum," Poroshenko added.
