EU receives from Kyiv request for deployment of peacekeepers in Donbas
The office of EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini has received a letter from Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin asking for a possible deployment of a peacekeeping mission within the framework of joint security and defense policies.
At the same time, a high-ranking European diplomat told Interfax-Ukraine no decisions have been made yet and the position of the EU is that support to the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) needs to be strengthened to ensure the fulfillment of the Minsk agreements.
"Our goal is the implementation of Minsk agreements with full support of OSCE SMM and readiness to do more, the diplomat said.
The diplomat said that EU and member countries provide for the largest support of OSCE SMM.
EU is considering additional measures to implement Minsk agreements, the diplomat said.
