Paper passes to cross Donbas contact line to be withdrawn – Border Guard Service Chief
Chief of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Viktor Nazarenko has said that staring from March 25 paper passes used to cross the contact line in Donbas will be withdrawn.
"We're planning that starting from March 25 paper passes will begin to be withdrawn. Thus, people who already have an electronic pass, will show a passport at a checkpoint, the information will be put into the database, which determines if a person has a pass to a specific sector, what kind of pass it is and for how long [it's valid]. It all will be shown to a controller, and he'll make a decision," Nazarenko said at a briefing in Kyiv on Friday.
In addition, to avoid subjective decision making, each decision on the passes will be documented. "Thus, people will only need to have a passport on them," Nazarenko said.
According to Nazarenko, the Border Guard Service is working on the electronic pass system together with the Security Service of Ukraine.
