EU states prepare feedback on Kyiv's call for peacekeepers - Foreign Ministry
Some EU member states are ready to deploy peacekeepers in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has reported.
"Such talks have already been held with some key players in the European Union. And they made it clear that positive feedback may follow the request to send their peacekeeping team [to Ukraine]," director of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's politics and communications department, Oleksiy Makeyev, said on the ICTV program 'Svoboda Slova' (Freedom of Speech) on Monday evening.
However, he confused to name the countries that support deploying peacekeepers.
As reported, Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) approved an appeal to the UN and the EU to deploy a peacekeeping mission in the country's south-east.
If the UN Security Council approves Ukraine’s request, a peacekeeping mission could begin operating under the auspices of the UN, EU or both, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said.
