Poroshenko signs law ratifying reform of civilian security sector in Ukraine
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed the law "On ratification of the Ukraine-EU Agreement on the status of EU Advisory Mission for Civilian Security Sector Reform Ukraine (EUAM Ukraine)."
According to the president’s website, law No.142-VII adopted by Verkhovna Rada on February 4, will facilitate the implementation of the necessary domestic procedures towards the agreement coming into force.
"The EU is deploying this mission to assist Ukraine in its reforms, including police and the rule of law. It will provide strategic advice for the development of effective, sustainable and accountable security services that contribute to strengthening the rule of law in Ukraine, for the benefit of all Ukrainian citizens throughout the country. EUAM Ukraine will be an unarmed, non-executive civilian mission. EU advisers will initially focus on supporting the elaboration of revised security strategies and the rapid implementation of reforms, in coordination and coherence with other EU efforts, as well as with the OSCE and other international partners," the report said.
