Ukraine's NSDC approves call for UN-EU peacekeeping
Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) has approved an appeal to the United Nations and the European Union to deploy a peacekeeping mission in the country's south-eastern regions.
"This matter was discussed and a decision was made to ask the UN and the EU to launch an operation aimed at maintaining peace and security in the territory of Ukraine," NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov told reporters after the council's meeting on Wednesday.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry will draft such a request and the country's parliament will support it, he said.
Turchynov also said that peacekeepers should be stationed both along the line of contact in Donbas and at uncontrolled sectors of the Russian-Ukrainian border.
