Appointment of wanted Saakashvili as Ukrainian presidential advisor may cause inconvenience - Georgian president
Georgian President Giorgy Margvelashvili has said that his visit to Kyiv is being worked out but does not rule out an awkward situation over the appointment of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who is on an international wanted list, as head of the Ukrainian presidential consultative council for reforms.
Commenting about Saakashvili's status in Ukraine, Margvelashvili said on Tuesday that a decision by a Georgian court is of priority to him and that he respects the decision. At the same time he underscored that he respects the sovereignty of Ukraine and was "not going to make comments on its domestic policy."
"Such a situation may create certain inconveniences," Margvelashvili said, noting that both parties will prevent the multiplication of such inconveniences.
Meanwhile, the Georgian Prosecutor's General Office reported on Tuesday that the Ukrainian side had refused to cooperate with Georgia on the extradition of Saakashvili and ex-Georgian Justice Minister Zurab Adeishvili to Georgia.
