No discussion on sending UN peacekeepers to Donbas
Ukrainian permanent representative at the UN Yuriy Serheyev denied allegations that the sending of UN peacekeepers to Donbas has been discussed.
"There has been no discussion about sending peacekeepers to our country," Serheyev said in response to questions from journalists as to whether the matter had been raised either at the UN Security Council or at its General Assembly.
The UN can send its peacekeepers anywhere only at a request by the government of a country where a conflict takes place, Serheyev said.
The UN Security Council sanctions the sending of a peacekeeping force, determines its composition, use, and financing, and issues a mandate under which the peacekeepers perform their mission, he said.
