Mariupol was shelled by Russia-backed militants – Poroshenko
Information collected by Ukrainian special services indicates that Mariupol in Donetsk region was shelled by militants with the support of the Russian Federation, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said opening a session of the National Security and Defense Council on Sunday.
"Intercepted radio communications and telephone conversations that were produced to me by the Security Service of Ukraine irrefutably prove that the attack was made by terrorists, who unfortunately are supported by the Russian Federation," he said.
At the beginning of the session council members paid tribute to the victims of the Mariupol shelling by a minute of silence.
"Yesterday 110 militants were eliminated. Over 90 more were wounded. Several vehicles with ammunition were destroyed. Seven units of armor were destroyed," he announced.
