Fourteen injured in blast outside Kharkiv court building

A commission made up of officials of the Ukrainian Security Service, the Interior Ministry and the Prosecutor's Office will investigate an explosion outside a court building in Ukraine's northeastern city of Kharkiv, Ukrainian Security Service head Valentyn Nalyvaichenko and Interior Minister Arsen Avakov announced at a joint session following the incident.

"An operation has been launched in the city of Kharkiv to track down and detain the offenders. Emergency anti-terrorist measures are being taken. As of 9:45 p.m. [on Monday], 14 people were injured as a result of the explosion. Of them, four were hospitalized in serious condition," the country's Security Service said on its Facebook page on Tuesday morning.

Immediate medical care was provided to all injured persons with the help of the local authorities, it said.

"We are treating this provocative crime as a terrorist act. We have dedicated all of our forces and means to its investigation. We will inform the public about the course of this inquiry in a prompt and regular manner," Nalyvaichenko said.
