Ukraine military say army positions in east attacked scores of times on Jan 14

Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine came under 85 attacks between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday, said the press center of the government military operation in the east.

Donetsk airport, towns and villages around it, and parts of the Debaltseve and Luhansk areas remained the epicenters of fighting, the center said in a statement.

At 6 a.m. a mortar attack was launched on the airport and at 9:20 a.m. militants' forces tried to storm an army outpost. The attacks were rebuffed but the airport's new terminal and air traffic control tower remained under mortar and tank fire until evening, the center said.

Mortars, cannon and Grad multiple rocket launchers were used in attacking the towns of Avdiyivka, Hranitne and Schastia. In Avdiyivka part of a school and several private houses were destroyed. In Schastia a woman was killed by a shell fired from a tank and two others were wounded.

Grads attacked several other towns and villages as well.

Earlier, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe had pulled off an agreement on the joint patrolling of Donetsk airport in order to prevent killings of civilians in neighboring areas.
